Why Our Team Away Day Was Worth Every Minute
This week I had the privilege of running AB Accountancy team away day at the Ramada Plaza Wrexham. It was a fantastic opportunity to step away from the day-to-day and focus on two big priorities for us right now: training on our new CRM and setting out our company vision for the future.
What really struck me was just how valuable it is to take the whole team out of the office and spend time together in a different setting. We notified out clients that we would be unavailable for a day, set a new one off recorded message if any phone calls came in and locked the office up for the day.
It’s so easy to get caught up in client work and deadlines. Having dedicated time to step back, reflect, and think about the bigger picture made a real difference. I could see people engaging not just with the what we do, but also the why. There’s something about being away from desks and emails that helps relationships grow. The conversations were more open, ideas flowed more freely, and I came away feeling that the team was closer and more aligned than ever. I also think the visit to the buffet lunch helped in this regard!!!
Talking through our company vision together reminded me that success isn’t about one person’s ambition it’s about everyone buying in and pulling in the same direction. I felt genuinely proud hearing the team’s thoughts and seeing their excitement about where we’re heading.
The CRM training was another highlight. Rather than everyone learning in isolation, the team shared questions, tips, and ideas, which made the whole session far more engaging. Shared knowledge is the best way to learn in my opinion and I always run these sessions when we are installing new software and systems.
For me, the day reinforced that investing in our people is the most important thing we can do. The skills and the connections build the foundations for the future we’re creating together at AB Accountancy.
