If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. – I heard that statement used a couple of times this week and it got me thinking. In some ways it sounds sensible but in practice it is one of the most damaging phrases in business. By the time something is broken you have already lost time, momentum, resource and money.
Think of some of these oft used phrases in the workplace
“we’ve always done it this way”
“it’s clunky but it works”
“lets not rock the boat”
Those feel like stagnation not stability to me. Waiting for something to break to fix it means missing out on proactive constant improvement and means you aren’t staying at the cutting edge of technology with the most efficient systems
